Why We Focus on These Communities

Southeastern Pennsylvania isn't a blank canvas — it's one of the older, denser housing markets in the country. Most of the homes we work on throughout Montgomery County and the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs were built between the 1920s and the 1970s: colonials, capes, twins, and split-levels on established, tree-lined streets. That history is exactly why the work here is different from remodeling a newer home.

Kitchens and bathrooms in these homes are frequently original, or updated only once decades ago. Layouts were designed around how families lived a half-century ago — smaller, separated rooms, limited counter space, and bathrooms sized for a single fixture set rather than modern expectations.

Electrical and plumbing systems often haven't been touched since the home was built. Homes of this era commonly have aging panels, knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring, and galvanized supply lines — none of which show up until walls are opened. Planning for this reality, instead of being surprised by it mid-project, is a big part of what keeps a renovation on schedule and on budget.

Families change, and these homes need to change with them. A lot of our work isn't a full gut — it's a smart addition, a reconfigured layout, or converting underused space to fit a family that's grown, changed, or started working from home.

Many of the neighborhoods we work in — Jenkintown's walkable boroughs, Cheltenham's older residential blocks, Abington's established communities — also carry real neighborhood character that homeowners want preserved, not erased. Renovating an existing home responsibly means working with what's there, not just tearing it out.

That combination — older housing stock, aging infrastructure, evolving family needs, and neighborhood character — is a different discipline than new construction. It's the discipline we've built our process around.
